'A deep distress has humanized my soul." William Wordsworth
Immediately following loss of a child, spouse, or other loved one to suicide, many survivors experience debilitating emotions. Some grievers fear they will never experience peace or joy again.
In the early weeks following loss to suicide, (as well as other devastating losses) many seek just to survive the next hour, the next day and the next week. It takes all that they have just to keep going, but as time goes on, most survivors do begin to feel better.
"Survivors are forever altered, and may never stop missing their loved one, but they do survive and eventually go beyond just surviving to again experience happy, meaningful and contributory lives."
Our Beyond Surviving Section features many stories that are a testimony to our ability to rise above the loss and pain without becoming bitter, jaded or hard. It is possible to survive, overcome and emerge transformed from one of life's most difficult experiences.
